[6:00pm] jrseti_: Hello! I assume only Sigblips is on-line?
[6:00pm] jrseti_: See http://setiquest.org/forum/topic/community-meeting-2012-07-17
[6:00pm] gliese581c`: Title: Community Meeting 2012-07-17 | setiQuest (at setiquest.org)
[6:00pm] sigblips: That's what it looks like. Just you, me, the bots, and the lurkers.
[6:00pm] jrseti_: We shall entertain the Lurkers.
[6:01pm] dk3232 joined the chat room.
[6:01pm] jrseti_: See http://setiquest.org/forum/topic/community-meeting-2012-07-17
[6:01pm] gliese581c`: Title: Community Meeting 2012-07-17 | setiQuest (at setiquest.org)
[6:02pm] sigblips: jrseti_: Did you read last week's IRC meeting transcript?
[6:02pm] jrseti_: No! I did not know you had a meeting!
[6:02pm] jrseti_: Give me the URL
[6:03pm] sigblips: It is in the usual place. http://setiquest.org/forum/topic/community-meeting-2012-07-10
[6:03pm] gliese581c`: Title: Community Meeting 2012-07-10 | setiQuest (at setiquest.org)
[6:03pm] jrseti_: I see it.
[6:04pm] jrseti_: Yes - setistars is no longer expired
[6:04pm] dk3232: it was just us two
[6:05pm] jrseti_: 1) KHRMs distro.
[6:06pm] sigblips: Yup, just checked, the SSL certificate for http://setistars.org now looks good.
[6:06pm] gliese581c`: Title: Setistars (at setistars.org)
[6:06pm] jrseti_: We have a new volunteer who lives near SETI who is going to try to help Gerry Harp with SonATA.
[6:06pm] jrseti_: He is using KHRM's distro
[6:06pm] jrseti_: He does not have it all working - but he is trying to get it loaded using VMFusion.
[6:07pm] sigblips: Have you invited this person to join the setiQuest forums and weekly IRC community meetings?
[6:07pm] jrseti_: I never did get the demo fully working - right at the end the packetread gets an error. But maybe he can help us with that
[6:07pm] jrseti_: I have not invited him yet. I will. I hope to see him tomorrow
[6:08pm] dk3232: what isnt working on the distro?
[6:09pm] jrseti_: The very last part - where you run the Voyager demo. It crashes
[6:10pm] jrseti_: So, I'll maybe have news on that next week
[6:10pm] jrseti_: 2. The antenna virtualization project
[6:11pm] jrseti_: I am re-working the project definition and scope. making it a lot simpler
[6:11pm] jrseti_: I am in the process of editing the project page on the WiKi
[6:12pm] jrseti_: So - stay tuned
[6:13pm] dk3232: got a question about the antenna virtualization project
[6:13pm] dk3232: is it just really eye candy or is there a scientific purpose to it?
[6:13pm] sigblips: I see that you removed using issues.setiquest.org as an issue tracker. Is RedMine officially deprecated?
[6:14pm] jrseti_: I'm trying to make things simpler. i think my explanation and approach was too complicated.
[6:14pm] jrseti_: I'll be removing almost everything.
[6:15pm] jrseti_: I just want to get some people actually interested in working, maybe start, then introduce redmine
[6:16pm] jrseti_: At least- I'll try
[6:17pm] jrseti_: I've been learing Unity3D and Blender - those are the tools we should be using. i did not know that several years ago
[6:17pm] dk3232: i looked at the doxygen documentation last week
[6:17pm] dk3232: i've really didnt see anything wrong with it?
[6:18pm] sigblips: dk3232 had a good question. What is the purpose of the Antenna Visualization project? People need to feel a greater purpose for them to invest their time and energy.
[6:18pm] jrseti_: Sigblips: eyecandy
[6:19pm] jrseti_: It would get ALOT of attention
[6:19pm] jrseti_: And connect us more with what the ATA is doing
[6:20pm] jrseti_: We would use it on our small screens at SETI
[6:20pm] jrseti_: I mean "large" screens
[6:21pm] sigblips: OK, sounds fair, the wiki page intro should mention this. I just want people to have the appropriate expectations.
[6:21pm] dk3232: also got a question about world of SETI
[6:21pm] dk3232: is it on the web where people can view it
[6:22pm] jrseti_: dk3232: There is not really anything wrong with the SonATA documentation. but it could use a bit of improvement - like including SonATA icons. Also some of it could be expanded - a lot of the functions have no definition or explanation of whhat they do.
[6:22pm] jrseti_: The World of SETI is really meant for use on our internal displays.
[6:23pm] jrseti_: But, I am planing on improving the WoS displays so anyone can use them.
[6:23pm] dk3232: it would be cool if the current status screen was on the web so people can see it
[6:23pm] sigblips: My concern is that SETI Live sort of tricks people. They join in the hope of looking for SETI while they really are classifying an unlimited amount of RFI. Nothing wrong with looking at RFI, I love RFI, unfortunately it doesn't match peoples expectations.
[6:24pm] jrseti_: yes, but I have to make some improvements first. The way it is now it takes a lot of network traffic.
[6:24pm] jrseti_: Sigblips: we are "this close" to getting the live followups. Actually we are doing followups, but only one level deep.
[6:25pm] dk3232: also any news from the gpu team that is suppose to port SonATA to gpu
[6:25pm] jrseti_: Sigblips: Bring that up on the SETILive forum, have you?
[6:25pm] jrseti_: dk3232: Yes - there is news....
[6:26pm] jrseti_: The company that was going to do it has gone out ob business!
[6:26pm] sigblips: The SETI Live people don't like hearing that sort of talk. Messages have been deleted and people have been banned for less!
[6:26pm] jrseti_: But, next moth I am going to a workshop that will cover GPUs. I hope to come back much more educated about GPUs
[6:26pm] dk3232: i want to help with that
[6:27pm] jrseti_: I'll be going to 2012 CASPER WORKSHOP
[6:27pm] jrseti_: https://science.nrao.edu/science/meetings/casper2012
[6:27pm] gliese581c`: Title: CASPER 2012 Annual Meeting Science Website (at science.nrao.edu)
[6:27pm] sigblips: jrseti_: Is it a CUDA or an OpenCL workshop?
[6:27pm] jrseti_: dk3232 - I have t learn about GPUs first - I know nothing.
[6:27pm] jrseti_: Sigblips: I think OpenCL
[6:28pm] dk3232: i know some open CL
[6:28pm] dk3232: the only thing is that i dont know a gpu to test on
[6:28pm] jrseti_: Sam here.
[6:28pm] sigblips: You can run OpenCL on a general CPU.
[6:29pm] dk3232: on my 1.4 ghz single core
[6:30pm] sigblips: The point isn't for it to be fast but to be able to test and develop it.
[6:31pm] dk3232: everytime I tried to run an open cl program on my computer i got an error, but on a multicore it worked
[6:31pm] jrseti_: Hopefully I'll know a bit more after the workshop
[6:32pm] dk3232: have you talked to gerry at all, to see if there is any c,c++ project for me?
[6:33pm] jrseti_: No. I have not been to SETI in several weeks. I'll see him tomorrow and we have a staff meeting then . I'll bring it up. Thanks for reminding me
[6:34pm] jrseti_: The website has been quite this week
[6:35pm] jrseti_: "quiet"
[6:35pm] sigblips: Yes, very little spam, not many messages. The previous week had some excitement. What happened?
[6:36pm] jrseti_: No idea
[6:37pm] jrseti_: So - shall we end the meeting?
[6:37pm] jrseti_: Our 30 minutes has expired
[6:38pm] sigblips: OK, I'll post the transcript to the forum.
[6:38pm] jrseti_: Thanks! Bye!
