Hey, as I suppose, that I won't be the only one, who might have some ideas for the forums, I thought of starting a thread. My first suggestion would be to have the total number of registered users shown below. Most forums feature that fuction. Of course the total number of registered users doesn't really say anything about the quality of a community or of a project. Nevertheless it's most certainly an indicator for the level of interest from the broad public. Of course you guys and gals running the project will have access to these numbers, but we normal users don't. Additionally: When you're not logged in, the forum looks deserted - most forums seem to have no thread, which doesn't look too inviting. Shouldn't unregistered users at least see the actual number of posts in each forum? Best regards Jens

I have a feeling this forum

I have a feeling this forum will quickly outgrow itself. With more than a few posters, I would hate to browse through it. How about a real forum such as phpBB?

I second the idea of using

I second the idea of using phpBB - it is a forum framework that many users will already be familiar and comfortable with. All one would have to do is create a custom skin to match the appearance of this website.

Drupal vs. phpBB

We are using the forum software that is part of Drupal. Drupal itself runs its forums using this software, and they have hundreds of thousands of topics and multiples of that as postings.

If you think our implementation of Drupal forum could be tuned, let us know how. And, if as we grow, if Drupal turns out not to be sufficient, we will be looking for help from you all and the rest of the community members on the right alternative. For now, I get it that phpBB may be a good alternative.
