Generation of test data

Hi

One goal of our summer projects is to create programs for generation of test signal data. As a simple example, we can use a Gaussian-distributed random number generator, to which we can add a simple sine-wave (chirp) generator to simulate standard SETI signals. In the C standard library, I don't think there is a Gaussian distributed generator.

In Numerical Recipes, there are Gaussian random number generators. There are open source variants available. Any suggestions on what should be incorporated into our open source projects?

Oh sorry it seems I didn't read the above question. GSL seems to be great for that.
