Hi my name is John I. Hulka, It is so exciting being a member of teamseti! I like Astronomy, reading and taking snapshots.

Going through some rough time fighting off sarcoma cancer, so have time for reading. It's easier using the iPad instead of setting at the computer.
Does anyone know when Setiquest will be offord for the Ipod? Checked today still not ready.

Thanks,

John

By setiQuest do you mean this website or apps that do SETI (eg like setiQuest Explorer)?

This is what I receive when I try to use my iPad.
I looked for apps but none are available.

Thanks for your reply.

Welcome to the Private Beta Program for setiQuest Explorer!

The iPhone/iPad version is under development. Please access setiQuest Explorer from a Mac OSX, Windows, or Linux personal computer.

Hmm, since I don't have an iPad, I don't know - but I'll find out and get back to you (or get someone else to get back to you, which is usually easier!).

Cheers

The setiQuest Explorer app

The setiQuest Explorer app requires Adobe Flash which means it won't work on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. For more information about setiQuest Explorer see our wiki page:

There is a new project to convert setiQuest Explorer to an HTML5 client that can run on an iPad or iPhone. See http://setiquest.org/wiki/index.php/Setiquest_explorer_html5 . I just created this project page - so no work has been done yet. We have 2 people that are keen to work on this, and I assume they will be starting ASAP. If you, or anyone else reading this, has the desire or time, it would be helpful to have someone help up document the client/server interraction of the current setiQuest Explorer.

Hi jrseti

Today is a good day for me.  I’m using my Desktop computer to write this.

I’m 68 and really enjoy the Seti Project and so excited to be a TeamSETI member.   I’m only average on the computer, know nothing about programming.  If there is anything I could do to help you please let me know.

We have the following:

Window’s Computer
Ipad
Ipad 2
IPod  2nd, Generation.

Thanks,

John

One thing we don't have is a "setiQuest Explorer For Dummies" like tutorial. What I mean is a step-by-step really simple tutorial about how to login and bring up setiQuest Explorer, lok for signals, what to do if you do see a signal, etc. With nice screen shots. Would you be interested in doing this? If so, I can create a Wiki page that you can edit, and once you are done, we can link to that Wiki page. Would this be something you'd like to do?

Check out this Adobe Flash

Check out this Adobe Flash Player 11 and AIR 3 for iOS news:

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/09/21/adobe_promises_console_qua...

It is supposed to be available in October. So this may mean that the iPhone will be able to run unmodified setiQuest Explorer code. The HTML5 port may be unnecessary.

What's Up With Explorer?

Howdy jrseti,

I have a few questions regarding the Explorer and Explorer-HTML5 Port projects ...

Relating to the Explorer-HTML5 Port Project ( http://setiquest.org/wiki/index.php/Setiquest_explorer_html5 ) . . .

* You are listed as a Project Member on the Project page, but not on your User page at  http://setiquest.org/wiki/index.php/User:Jrseti.  Are you still involved with this project?

*  Who is the current project leader?

*  What is the current status of this port project?  There is no status section on the wiki page.

*  Has anything been done on this project since you created the project page four months ago, in September of last year?  Or is there zero interest in the Explorer project right now?

*  Is there a public mailing list for this project that would bring a new volunteer up-to-speed?

*  Did Francis not document anything that he wrote in this project?  I'm asking because you wrote, "it would be helpful to have someone help up document the client/server interraction of the current setiQuest Explorer."  This basic transaction information isn't documented?!

* The old setiQuest Explorer Project page ( http://setiquest.org/wiki/index.php/SetiQuest_Explorer ) says, "An open source setiQuest Explorer HTML5 port project has been started. It will utilize HTML5 instead of Flash and it should run on iOS and on any modern web browser. The ETA is Spring 2012."  Really?  In just a couple of months?

*  Where is the open source located?  I don't see a selection for this port project.  Is there a specification sheet for the project?
.
.
Relating to the existing Explorer project ( http://setiquest.org/wiki/index.php/SetiQuest_Explorer ) and web site ( http://live.seti.hg94.com/ ) . . .

* The setiQuest Explorer Project page does not list Project Members, Project status, links to the Open Issues page, what the Volunteer-Selected Pattern verification process is, what a volunteer could help with, etc.

*  Has anyone taken on the role of project lead for this project since Francis went away?

*  What happened to the other people working on this project?

*  The code repository stopped seeing new commits around the June/July timeframe last year.  Is this when the project died?

*  Is there a public mailing list for this project that would bring a new volunteer up-to-speed?

*  Does anyone at setiQuest ever look at the setiQuest Explorer web page to read/reply to comments by volunteers?

*  Does anyone, or some program, look at the patterns selected by volunteers in order to verify them or compare them to other volunteer-selected patterns for a closer look?

*  Will the three open Issues ( http://issues.setiquest.org/projects/explorer ) in the existing Explorer app, that were reported in March of 2011, be fixed by anyone, or is the existing app simply being left to die?

*  The web page says, "REMEMBER: This is a product under development.  We will be adding features and fixing bugs over the coming weeks."  Was that statement written in March of 2011 when the project was first rolled out?

*  There is no Tutorial or FAQ page on the site.

*  There are no "real image" examples of patterns.

*  The pattern graphics presented to the volunteers to select from are different than the ones listed on the project page.

*  The main page does not inform users that every assignment requires a download of 20 MB, which is something that folks with quota bandwidth and/or DSL connections, need to be made aware of.

Thank you for helping everyone who would like to donate some of their time and effort on SETIs open-source projects, by providing us with project information so we can make a decision as to whether or not we are qualified and what tools and programming languages will be required.
