The https://setistars.org/ site launched today. The http://info.setistars.org/ page has some more detailed information. A social aspect to setiSTARS was mentioned a week or two ago but I am not sure what those details are. The site says "stay tuned ..." Current status as of this post is 306 stars, $19270 out of $200000 (9%) with 39 days remaining.

A $500 donation by setistar #996 just pushed us over the $100K (50%) hump. Woohoo! It's all downhill from here. (:
Current status is 1057 stars, $103,783 (51%) with just 4 days left.
I donated today. Tick tick tick. Time is running out. Have you donated yet?
Current status is 1293 stars, $139,623 (69%) with just 2 days left.
There has been an amazing surge of donations in the past 24 hours. I wonder if it is related to the Celebrating Science 2011 interactive Family Science Faire this past weekend at the SETI Institute? In the IRC meeting Jill said 400 people attended.
The processing for the https://setistars.org/stars page seems a bit clogged. The comment for my donation yesterday has yet to post. ):
Current status is 1673 stars, $179,194 (89%) with just 1 day left.
Jodie Foster wearing headphones with the VLA in the background is today's featured SETIstar. https://setistars.org/stars/jodie-foster
Talk about non-terrestrial Doppler drift, the donation rate has been experiencing some serious blue shifting during these final days of the $200K challenge. It has been incredible to watch.
My donation comment took a couple days but it was posted yesterday. Yes it's true that I really do like analyzing SETI signals with http://baudline.com (:
Current status is 1824 stars, $185,079 (92%) with just 0 days left. Zero days! The challenge ends in slightly less than 15 hours at midnight PST. The $200K goal is within reach. Donate today.
Uh oh. http://setistars.org is returning a "500 Internal server error."
Current status is 1832 stars, $185,334 (92%) with just 6 days left.
https://setistars.org/ was down all day yesterday. Time warp! From zero to six days. I guess they added couple more days in order to meet the $200K end goal.
Current status is 2133 stars, $200,757 (100%) with 3 days left. Hurray the challenge level has been reached! Now the question is what happens next?
Sci-Fi writer Larry Niven is this week's featured SETIstar. https://setistars.org/stars/larry-niven
For Jill's comment about the donation processing status and some talk about Kzinti and Puppeteers read yesterday's community IRC meeting transcript. http://setiquest.org/forum/topic/community-meeting-2011-08-02
Current status is 2205 stars, $203,204 (101%) with 8 days left. Eight days! It seems like they added another week to the deadline. Not sure why since the $200K level was reached a couple days ago.
Current status is 2267 stars, $205,449 (102%) with 4 days left.
Current status is 2453 stars, $216,718 (108%) with 1 day left.
Current status is 2488 stars, $219,238 (109%) the days left section now says "Thank you!"
This concludes the first SETI ATA fundraising drive.
I sent emails to the people resonsible for the SETIStars.org site yesterday after I saw your post. Maybe they were notified of this problem because of my email, I did not hear back. Gald it is working.
Thanks for paying attention and letting me know!
The surge in donations has been truly amazing. Thank to all the SETIStars. As I write this, only $20K to go!
I should have thought ahead an logged the progress of setistars.org so I could have created a chart showing the progress over time.
That's exactly the reason why I'm periodically updating this thread! In retrospect it would of been great if the setiStars Twitter account automatically posted a status update of this numeric information.
Here is an August 2nd TED blog post about SETIstars:
It mentions that the "next phase of setiQuest will be unveiled in 2012." I wonder if this is the planned Citizen Science project? Galaxy Zoo? Or could this be something else completely new?
the funds we have raised with the crowd-funding site SETIStars.org provide the catalyst to bring the ATA out of hibernation. we never built the array to hibernate, we think it will do just fine, but there are lots of tests and operational details that we will have to conduct before we can start observing. we also plan to use this opportunity to add some additional air conditioning to our signal processing room so that we can use all of the wonderful DELL enterprise servers that were donated to expand SonATA 1.0 to match the bandwidth of the existing beamformers. while this initial funding goal is an absolute necessity, it will not solve the long-term problem of annual operating funds. for that we need to find partners to replace UC Berkeley. we are working on that as we speak. one piece of that equation that can help stabilize the ongoing observations as we negotiate new contracts will be an opportunity for SETIStars donors to fund particular observing opportunities and watch the summaries of progress of 'their' sponsored time on their mobile devices. there are more details to be worked out before we can launch this, but stay tuned, we'll roll it out as soon as we can. this is something different from the citizen science Galaxy Zoo application development - if we possibly can, we will have something to showcase on that in March 2012 at TED.
Here is an informative August 8th MSNBC blog post:
SETI Institute CEO Tom Pierson said:
"the institute's managers and scientists were drawing up a plan that would restart science operations in September"
"we think we're going to come out of hibernation and be solid for the next five months or so, and during those five months we're going to take care of calendar year 2013 and put that under our belt."
This is good news but I'm not sure what that 5 months and 2013 calendar year comment means. Surely they will need more than $200K to stay operational through 2013?
