Software

SETI Institute has been developing software to control telescopes and to detect selected classes of signals for the past two-plus decades. Historically this code has executed on full and then partial custom hardware.

With a view to getting the global community inovolved we are migrating this code to standard off-the-shelf hardware.

There are many desirable functions and widgets we have never incorporated into our code and search modality. Modern servers and you can change all of that. There are undoubtedly additional efficiencies to be exploited with the existing code-base in order to allow the search to be faster and more efficient.

Will you volunteer to join us in this quest? If so, please sign up using the buttons on the top right of this page, and help us carry the dialog further by participating in forums. Please also feel free to email us with your ideas (our apologies in advance if we cannot respond to your mails immediately).

Our target date for open sourcing this software is March 2011. If you would to help in the planning process, please let us know that too.
