Beamformer cards.jpg

The beamformer is a device that sums the samples from individual antennas with appropriate complex weights to produce a beam. The beamformer allows the antenna beam to be steered in multiple directions at the same time. This is useful for observing multiple targets and for creating an OFF beam for immediate signal verification. Implemented in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), the beamformer is technically hardware.

Currently there are 3 beamformer cards that feed the SonATA system with dual-polarized beams (6 unique channels).

We need to work on the Beamformer documentation here.
